Made it to Cusco
Tuesday May 17
After we unboarded from the land yacht we landed at our overnight accommodations. For this one Patti gave me a choice, fancier but further from the action, or on the downside but right in the mix. I went for the cheaper option and thought the room was great even though the hotel has appeared to suffer a 33% downgrade.
Here is Riley posing with the street from our balcony.
We have been unable to do our typical guerilla style laundry, all over the room, as we have not spent two nights in the same place yet, that is coming.....soooooooon. However, even better, we were able to find a cheap laundry drop right across the street. We have used this in the past with good success most of the time. Our biggest loss was a few years ago in Hong Kong where I lost one of my favorite travel shirts. These folks were able to out a rush on it and have it ready in 3 hours. Normally we are not in such a rush, but we had to get up at 3:30 AM to get going on our Machu Picchu trek.
As I loitered around waiting for the 8:00 cleaning pickup I started looking at some of the clothes they were selling in this shop as the cleaner just had a little desk in the back. The clothes were name brand and looked like they were high quality originals, lots of fake goods sold in this region, but there was something just not right about them. Ahh, I realized that they were all slightly used. Then the Hong Kong connection made me wonder if in a few days some of my clothes were going to be hanging on display. When my bags finally arrived I was relieved to find a full count of clothes and no donations to the burgeoning 'Discreetly Stolen and Gently Used' clothing market.
OK. Night night.
