Cusco Day 4 - From Bean to Bar

Monday May 23

The forecast for today was rain so we altered our plans a bit and decided to mill around Cusco and see some of the local sites which included a nice sleep in which is very uncharacteristic for the Huth Clan.

We had a few things we wanted to see but some time to spare as well. A quick internet search offered up what proved to be one of the kids favs, Chocolate. There are little chocolate museums here and there but this one offered a two hour hands on class in processing a cocoa bean into a chocolate bar.

Our professor was an entertaining Peruvian who at one point had us very convinced that we needed human blood to make the best chocolate.  The thought running through our heads was, hey, this is Peru, anything is possible.

Tara proved to be an expert bean roaster...

...while Riley, Mommy, and I proved to be complete slobs in creating our confections (Tara is lower left). We certainly poured more of that nice warm liquid chocolate into our mouths than into our molds.  The company likely lost more than they made on this one.  The Huth stomachs strike again.

Tara made the most awesome, maybe that is not the right word, concoction of sprinkles, Oreos, quinoa, M&Ms, sea salt, and bacon.  No, no bacon. She only wished they had bacon. Guinea Pig Bacon!

The forecast delivered as promised and made for a great rainbow shot of one of the churches in Plaza de Armas from which our hotel was only steps away.  Right up massage alley.  After taking a bunch of pictures, and the rains picking up, we retreated to the People's Republic of Starbucks for some drying off and to see if that there internet would work which it did, kind of.

We wrapped up the night by visiting the Donor Kebab for what would be our third of four times. This guy really knows how to lay down the Gyro. Better that we found even in Greece. We were hooked after the first one. The pita was perfectly toasted, the atmosphere was fine, it was about 100 meters from our place, it cost $3, and no one suffered the GID because of it.

I have to mention that we went to McDonald's for lunch. Including this visit, we have been to McD's on five continents, Patti gets to claim six with Australia.  This was the worst on so many levels, but we did it.
