Water Closet
Most places we have stayed in India and for that matter most places outside of the U.S. give new meaning to the term water closet. Or maybe this was the intended definition all along. We have found that once you take a shower in the bathroom the water on the floor seems to stick around nearly indefinately and your feet seem to be prepetually wet. Not so good for this sock wearing dude ;-).
Detraining
I have hauled around the TRX on all of our travels and have tried to stay somewhat regular so I am not taking a complete month off of everything. About a year and a half ago I began a training scheme where I weight train only 10 minutes a week. This is the most difficult 10 minutes in the week by far. It sounds crazy but it works great for me with how it mixes in with the other things that I do. I am experimenting on this trip and not using the TRX but using a muscle tension workout that I made up through the same 5 exercises as my 10 minute workout. We will see how that has worked soon enough. Patti is still a TRX girl.
Road Riley
While Himraj was a rather erratic driver, the roads in the North were relatively straight. In the South we have gone up into the hill country and back down and all on very curvy roads. Beni liked to see how many g's he could pull in every other turn. He was not in the habit of slowing down before the turn but braking hard in the turn which added another vector to the car sickness dynamic. We had to pull over a few times to prevent Riley from throwing up. We tried to tell Beni to slow down in the curves with only partial success, he did slow down, but only on the straights and not on the curves, funny. Riley does have stomache skills in the Tuk Tuk though.
Pray Without Ceasing
Travelling, particularly to the developing world, is something that always affords an opportunity to rely on God in a way that I should when not on the road. While I start my days at home in prayer and the Bible I can go throughout those days seemingly on autopilot. Life at home is routine and challenges are not new but seemingly recurrences of things I have faced before. When travelling, particularly the way we travel, nothing is routine, not even how the hot and cold work on the shower. I find myself praying constantly as the Bible instructs and resting in the fact that God is sovereign over all things and all outcomes. Trusting that His will is always done and appealing to Him for our safety and wellbeing is a pattern that I would like to carry back into the routine that I will soon return to.
And Justice for All
A common theme among the folks that we talked to was the corruption of people in positions of governmental power in India. Somehow whomever we talked to for an extended period drifted into this topic. As we drove by the High Court building in Kochi our driver lamented this fact once again, that they all take money to change their minds. He and the other folks we spoke to do think India is getting better and I pray that it continues. The Bible is clear that those that govern us must not take bribes and must treat the rich and the poor, the homeborn and the immigrant with the same application of the law. America is not immune to this this sin and our politicians have their corruptions, and it seems increasingly so.
