It's a Wrappa for the Cappa
Saturday June 18
Today was our final day in Cappadocia and closing in on our Turkey Exit at 4:10AM Sunday Morning
We had a late evening (after midnight) at the cultural spectacle last night. Patti and I decided that we would just sleep then make a call as to our morning activity based on that. We managed to wake up at a decent time but were impeded in our exit by check-in shenanigans that seemed to be of higher priority.
We headed out the door when it was still the cool of the morning and left the kids in the dark and powerless room. We pulled the key from the master switch, which deactivates all the lighting, so as to lock the door behind us. They were still passed out when we returned.
We hiked up Pigeon Valley. Saw some balloons, Patti made me delete the few pics I snapped, control freak. Saw some pigeons, the excrement of which was used as a plater-ish base to apply to the walls and ceilings of the cave churches over which pigment was added to create the incredible frescos. Saw yet another geologic feature type in which dwellings were constructed. I think I like this look the best.
Saw some sheep. This guy was gonna get all up in my face as my plate last night delivered his buddy with a side of rice. However, my garlic breath from the entirely too flavorful appetizer options where keeping him, and Patti, at bay.
Saw some dogs. This one was very persistent and vocal. He howled like he was down with a case of full moon fever. Patti was partly to blame here as she would not stop looking back which would signal poochie that we were still in play. He was working it harder then the hawkers in Istanbuls Grand Bizarre.
We woke the kids from their comas and had a late breakfast after which we checked out. The gazebo was out room away from room for the 90 mins prior to hitting the road to the airport. I think this was one of my favorite hotels stays, maybe every. They did a great job of providing numerous spaces outside to chill at. Here is a view of the courtyard at night.
As we were loading up the supercar Patti pulled me over to show me how scratched up it was. It really looked like a mess, my guess was mostly from the dust acquired on our off road adventure the day before. I did scrape some bushes, but did not think it was that bad. I ran back in and grabbed some paper towels and wiped down the dust scratches to get that ideal dirty but not scratched look.
The airport was slammed, we could barely get across from the rental car check-in to the terminal.
With 2 gates, and not many more flights than that per day, it was really all about knowing how to get around efficiently. We were confident that our bags could not get lost here, unless out of malice or gross incompetence.
We had another tarmac load and then off to Istanbul for a very short night, 1:30AM taxi to the airport.
