Day at the Museum
You could spend a year in the Louvre and still not take it all in. So what do you do with a few hours? We wanted to give the kids an appreciation of this museum and some of the works in it but we also wanted not to push their burn out factor. We found a 'Best of' tour that we could accomplish in a few hours and leave a more in depth tour for later in life.
Here is the famed Champs-Élysées, the finishing stage of the Tour de France along with other notables including the most expensive shopping France. To prove this, the kids bought some bulk candy here and the per kilo bulk price was actually cheaper in Euro Disney. The Huth girls were demolished by this day of touring. It is fitting that they collapsed below the relief of Napolean the conquer.
It was a little like a scavenger hunt following this route, first take this escalator, then turn behind this wall, then take this elevator. We did manage to accomplish it and see all the sights. Of course, top of the list was saying "Hi" to Lisa. This is the ultimate selfie. There was no getting the kids directly in front for a shot as it was mass chaos. I am sure with a little photo shop work you could create a very nice image and fool everyone.
The Wedding Feast at Cana was next, depicting the first recorded miracle of Jesus' earthly ministry. There is no way to do these works justice with my camera, skills, etc, and better images are freely available. What I did try to accomplish was to show some perspective on the scale of these works. That it Riley hiding down there in the lower right.
Here is Tara at the coronation of Napoleon.
Here are the kids in front of a partially completed sculpture by Michelangelo. Riley was totally down with it. I did not take to many pictures in the Louvre as so many exist that are so much better than mine, but none of them have these one of a kind image bearers of God.
After the Louvre we visited the 13th century chuch St. Chapelle. This was a pretty spectacular building with stained glass windows depicting the creation through the coming of Jesus and His return. This church was created to house what is thought to be the crown of thorns that Jesus wore the day of His crucifixion.
It was a chilly day and Patti took every opportunity to warm herself. Here she and Riley are heated by the ventilation of warm subterranean gases from the bowels of Paris.
Here they are again basking in the heat of a spit fired piggy.
Yes, Nutella crepes were on the menu and this guy did 'em up. They were so rich that I barely finished mine and when I had to take one, or two, for the team because the kids could not finish theirs I almost passed out.
The Arc de Triumph was next in the list. Got this shot with a vertical panorama but holding the camera sideways. Could not quite get what I wanted but was surprised how close.
