Santorini Day 3
The Sun Always Shines on Santorini...except for today :-)
Today was opposite of what yesterday was - clouds vs sun, gas propelled vs human propelled, my hands at the helm vs a madman. I have piloted ATVs a number of times in the past and have had a few crashes due to driving like a maniac. This day was nearly opposite as I had Riley 'Big Head' Huth hangin' on the back. We got our motors runnin' and headed out on the highway.
We first stopped at Pyrgos and although the cloud cover put damper on the photo ops (as if I did not take enough yesterday) I did capture this blue domer.
At the high point in this village was a formerly grand old structure that was now just a pile of rubble that we wandered through. It made an interesting vantage point for this chapel shot.
The map that the rental place provided was pretty awful and not much more then a caricature of the island. "Just follow the signs" was the advice. I have a bit of map OCD dating back to my days as a flower delivery man (boy) and this bothered me a just a little. But as long as we were not out of gas or running terribly late, I figured it was ok to get a little lost, which we did.
One of our accidental, but intended for later in the trip, bunny trails was the monestary of Profitis Elias. This happened to be an out and back road that ended on the highest point on the island. There was a nice little chapel there next to a radar installation. The chapel had wooden seats custom made for the curvature of the room, not unlike others that we have seen. Over the alter were pictures of the discipleship class of A.D. 1 and The Teacher.
When it appeared that we were really lost I had to inquired of a woman who looked like she knew what she was doing, she did not, she told me to ask the man in the orange trousers. Sometimes you hear things that you are sure you will never hear again.
Too cold even for Riley today.
Later in the day we returned the motos to Fira and caught our last views of the Aegean from that vantage point.
Tomorrow we head to Switzerland where we get to flush our toilet paper once again, among other attractions of course.
