The Great Wall

All of the hostile intrigue was worth it for our two trips to the wall.  One in the afternoon and one for the sunrise.  We were taken to a secluded section of the Badling Wall.  When we first climbed out of the van I was not surprised why this section was not so busy.  But my doubts were eliminated after the first 500 stairs that I climbed.  It was amazing and all ours.  We were hiking for almost 4 hours and the only others were a group of 5 people that we passed right near the end.  This was not a restored part of the wall, but we had the wall to ourselves.

It was a beautiful day with a nice breeze and the kids did great!  This was a very big hike.  We came from way down on the middle right of this image and this was only half way up.

It is an amazing structure and one that offers a myriad of unique vantage points as every step reveals a different view on the wall as it undulates across the mountains.

I certainly took a few shots trying to get one that might make a nice reproduction.

Amazing.  How all of this stone was hauled up to the spine of the mountain for 4000 miles over 2000 years ago and it still stands today.
